Explore your creativity in one of the world’s most inspiring landscapes
May 29 - June 8th, 2025
Terra Magica Immersion is a contemplative painting workshop designed by Tatjana Krizmanic and Daniela Miljan. Beginners who want to discover their creativity or working artists who want to hone their technique will feel equally at home in the workshop.
What makes Terra Magica special is Tatjana's emphasis on learning to see artistically, which releases creativity and joy in art and, she believes, in all one's activities. Through her years of experience, broad knowledge of different media, and generous and lively teaching style, Tatjana meets each student where they are.
Participants will immerse themselves in the colors, beauty and culture of the Istrian peninsula as they undertake this exciting journey of insight and spirit. Individual and group instruction, outings to stunning locations, awareness exercises and group meals fill the daily schedule, with plenty of time for self-guided work and exploration. The week culminates in a group show and celebratory dinner.
LOCATION
Santa Katarina Island, Rovigno, Croatia
There are three regions in the Mediterranean belt renowned worldwide for their unique blend of beauty, culture and history: Provence, Tuscany and Istria. Istria, the least explored of the three, is the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. Veiled in myth and mystery, the ancient Romans named it “Terra Magica”, meaning Magical Land. This land will provide a magnificent and rich locale for our artistic exploration. The organizers, Aspiria, have secured a truly magical location for our work on the island of Santa Katarina. HEAD Instructor
Tatjana Krizmanic has been a student of meditation for 35 years and she brings her contemplative perspective into her work and teaching. Tatjana Krizmanic is known for her brilliant pastel drawings and oil paintings, which depict ordinary life with a distinctly European sensibility. Krizmanic’s work is marked by a warm cheerfulness, where bright colors and swirling perspectives make everyday settings come alive, such as a trip to the farmers’ market or morning coffee. Surreal and inventive, her work recalls Chagall, Matisse, Klimt, Picasso – influences she grew up with.
A Croatian native, she was born in Zagreb, Tatjana started painting at age fourteen. After studying at the University of Zagreb, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she completed her studies at Georgetown University. Over the next ten years she created paintings for friends and patrons, while working as an art director.
Since her first exhibit in Boulder, Colorado, she has built a strong following, and her paintings reside in numerous private collections and museums. Her work is shown in galleries in United States, Canada, Europe and Japan. Krizmanic divides her time between her home on the Adriatic coast of Croatia and New York City.

I would say definitely, yes! People should come and experience this. Because it changes you. For me, the change wasn't only in painting; the biggest progress was in meditation, to be honest. All of it together, combined was quite a profound experience. The space, the group of people, the way it flowed thorough the week and the fact that we had time to work alone as well as in a group setting all contributed to an experience that opened me to new techniques and new, more free ways of expression and deeper seeing, being aware of the world around me. I feel different!
Tatjana’s help was really something. Because she always shows this little point which changes everything completely!

I am used to always doing things for a specific project. This is very different - it is unconfined. Tatjana has a fabulous way - carefree and loose, she makes it all look so easy and seamless. This in turn allows you to think outside the box. Also, the beauty of nature here is beyond words, unspoiled and pristine ! Also, being in a different culture where no one knows you … it sort of gives you permission to be you, opens your eyes little bit. And then, we are encouraged throughout the workshop to really look, inside and out. The workshop was a very magical, safe container. The week was inspiring, uplifting and surprising.

I did not paint before the Terra Magica retreat. I do intend to continue. I noticed that since the end of the program I continue to notice scenes and objects that I would like to paint and that I regularly think about in terms of textures, techniques and moves that would be suitable for expressing myself into those motifs. I moved from the need to capture my thoughts through painting to simply painting.
During this new exploration for me in the course of the workshop what I appreciated most of was the feeling of safety, trust and the understanding among the participants and teachers. All were are so open, supportive and most of all accepting.
